In this step by step guide we will walk you through the process to successfully conduct the Newtons Second Law activity with two wireless bluetooth light gates. The video below goes in to more detail about the activity itself.
With the Dynamics track positioned on a flat surface, attach each Light Gate using the supplied nuts and bolts.
Assuming your mass will be dropped from the left side of the Dynamics Track, Light Gate A should be attached on the right and Light Gate B on the left. (Note: Should you with to reverse this, then Light Gate A should always be the first Light Gate the Interrupt card passes through).
Place your Dynamics Cart, with Interrupt Card fitted on the track
Using two Light Gates, connect each gate together using the supplied jack lead.
Turn both Light Gates on by pressing the orange 'on' button located to the front of each light gate.
EasySense App wireless connectivity
Important - Only one of the two Light Gates need to be connected the EasySense App.
With the EasySense App open, click on devices.
From the devices panel connect to ONE of the two Light Gates, the connected Light Gate will be now known as Light Gate A.
Under the "Sensors' section for the connected Light Gate, ensure that 'Timing Data' is turned on.
Now ensure that the drop down shows 'Two Light Gates'.
Setting up the activity
Select 'Timing' from the 'Home' screen.
Now, click on 'Setup' located at the bottom left of the EasySense App.
Copy the settings from the image above and once completed you can start your experiment by clicking on the 'Start/Play' button.
Quick Tip: Make sure you do not push the trolley back through the light gates before your next run along the track, this will trigger A when you don’t want it to be triggered. For example remove the cart off the track and position back to it's starting position.
